Rivian has shown great tenacity to become the first car maker to release an electric pickup truck
Amazon and Ford backed Rivian has finally rolled off the first R1T electric pickup truck of its production line. This makes the Rivian R1T the first electric pickup truck in the world. RJ Scaringe, the CEO of Rivian tweeted a photo of the team at its Normal, IL facility cheering on the flagship EV after it completed assembly ahead of the customer deliveries which have already been delayed.
After months of building pre-production vehicles, this morning our first customer vehicle drove off our production line in Normal! Our team’s collective efforts have made this moment possible. Can’t wait to get these into the hands of our customers! pic.twitter.com/8ZidwTaXRI

Rivian also has the R1S electric SUV that’s also in the pipeline but it is the pickup truck that’s the flagship. Rivian is also working with Amazon and has designed its electric logistics vans. From companies like Ford and Amazon, amongst others, Rivian has garnered a total of $10 billion in investment and it has also announced its intent to go for an IPO valuing it around $80 billion which will be more than even Uber.
“After months of building pre-production vehicles, this morning our first customer vehicle drove off our production line in Normal! Our team’s collective efforts have made this moment possible. Can’t wait to get these into the hands of our customers,” tweeted Scaringe.
Currently, Rivian is rolling out the Launch Edition of the R1T and the in the coming weeks after making a quick stop to the pre-delivery centres for final inspection it will be in the driveways of owners. There are two more trim levels in the works – the Adventure and Explore packages which will have their deliveries begin in January 2022.
